Happy with a chance of nerves…

Today will be a good day…today is one normal day then at 4 this afternoon the weekend begins! Hubs is taking the weekend off AND it’s his birthday weekend! Woot! I love birthdays…I love shopping for the perfect gift (even though he’s pretty hard to buy for lol), I love planning special things (date night!), and I love getting the boys involved and teaching them all about making someone feel special on their birthday!

Tonight we are planning to hit the farmers market in Bridgeville. We’ve been wanting to go all summer but we are just now getting around to it. We have a few local markets but they are all pretty small. This one is big! Lot’s of vendors and lots of beautiful produce and goodies! We cannot wait to buy some hot peppers to stuff and freeze for Hubs and I’m thinking of getting a few apples to make him a pie…yum!

Saturday Bubba has a soccer game in the morning and a baseball game in the afternoon. That little man LOVES to play! I swear he’d play sports all day if we let him. He’s really getting the hang of soccer too! In my opinion (which of course is a little biased) he looks really good seeing how he’s only played soccer for a month and a half! He amazes me though…I really think he could pick up any sport and with a little exposure and practice play it really well. It’s so much fun watching him play too! He’s definitely a natural athlete!

Then Saturday night I’m taking Hubs out for his birthday…it’s a surprise to him where we’re going to dinner so I’ll have to post about it later. Should be yummy though!

Sunday, well, not much planned so far except a baseball game smack dab in the middle of the day.  I’m sure we’ll find something fun to do as a family! It is what you make it, right?!

Sounds amazing right? I bet you’re wondering what the “…chance of nerves” part is. That would be Monday. On Monday little Monkey goes in for another injection…this time in his left knee. His poor knee has been so swollen and because of the amount of fluid in the joint he also has a large baker’s cyst on the back of his knee. All he knows is we’re going to the doctors, we get to play in the big playroom with all the cool toys and that they will let him smell the candy air. He doesn’t know that he will wake up Monday morning and not be allowed to eat. He doesn’t know that he’ll be getting stuck with a big needle. He doesn’t know that Momma is worried even though we’ve done this before and with the exception of him throwing up on the way home everything was fine. I guess it’s my job as his momma to worry no matter what. I don’t worry myself sick but I definitely worry. I mean, what mom likes the idea of her 3 year old being sedated? Anyway, not going to focus on that. I’m going to focus on the fact that we are very blessed to have wonderful doctors at one of the best children’s hospitals in the United States. I know that he is going to be in the best possible place and under the best possible care.

Crafting Fun!

We stopped at Goodwill today…one of my favorite places to shop! I swear I never leave that place empty handed! Today we found a brand new Operation game for the boys for a buck, two dresses for me for five bucks a piece and some awesome glassware and plates for me to craft with.
I got my inspiration for this project from a friend who found it on Pinterest (where else, right?!).

A Surprise for Monkey

Back in August I posted about how Monkey was diagnosed with Juvenile Arthritis. Since then I’ve been doing some research…not only on the disease itself but also to find other local families who are also dealing with JA. The staff at the Arthritis Foundation has been a HUGE help. They have directed me to a local chapter who have in turn been keeping me updated on local events. (Unfortunately, we just missed their JA even at the local Children’s museum but hopefully we’ll we able to make it next year.) The kindness and helpfulness of the staff has been amazing. Not only have they responded quickly to my inquiries but they have helped me sign up for their newsletter and signed Monkey up for a special care package.

When they told me about the package I was expecting the normal free stuff…you know, the cheap, mass produced items companies usually hand out at expos and such. Well, yesterday Monkey’s package arrived and boy were we surprised!

Inside there was a large, sturdy backpack full of fun stuff for him and a smaller tote with items for me. In the smaller bag there was the current newsletter along with a health organizer where I can keep all Monkey’s health information and notes about his experience with JA. There was also a great book for parents…Raising a Child with Arthritis. I’ve skimmed through the book a bit and I’m really looking forward to reading it. There are chapters that detail the different types of JA as well as all the treatments that are available and explanations of the different medications.
In Monkey’s backpack we found a book about soothing pain called Imagine a Rainbow, there were also pencils and a notebook (which he’s already been ‘writing’ in), there was a stainless steel water bottle, some spray hand sanitizer, a name tag where I can put his medical info to attach to his bag, and then there was a bear. Brandon Bear to be exact.

This little guy is not only SO cute but he is super soft! Monkey couldn’t wait to cuddle him. The best part about this bear though is that he is a warming bear from from Relax….with Flax. We immediately warmed Teddy Bear (Monkey had to change his name!) in the microwave and snuggled with him.

I am so thankful for the resources that were sent and that are available to us and I’m even more thankful for the genuine people out there who are helping kids, like Monkey, deal with JA. There are over 300,000 other kiddos out there who have JA with more being diagnosed every day. It’s real, kids do get arthritis too.

I want to personally thank Allison and Caitlin with the Arthritis Foundation for answering my many questions and for sending us such an awesome package. I also want to thank those at Relax…with Flax for the awesome bear and for creating such a great comfort item for kiddos like Monkey.

Fall is in the air!

This is my favorite time of year! Cool, crisp evenings, jeans, boots, sweatshirts, fires, pumpkin everything, spicy smells, beautiful leaves…the list goes on and on! Even though fall doesn’t officially start for a few more days, we kicked off our fall last week by going apple picking! This year the apples were a little on the small side but the fun we had made up for it! We came home with a big bag full of tiny apples and memories that made my heart full. Nothin’ like mixing two of my favorite things…fall and my boys!

Zim and Monkey playing on one of the new play sets.

Peek-a-boo!  I see you!

My little farm animals.

Little man was very brave and loved petting the goats!

Bubba and Zim searching for good apples…they were hard to find!

“Mmmm! Dis ummy, Daddy!”

As you can see in the last few pictures Bubba was with us as well. We actually ran into some friends at the farm and he was waaaaay too busy playing with his buddy to stop for pictures.

“Where’s Perry?” - #TuneinTuesday!

Having kids means watching a LOT of animated shows…some of which are very annoying after a while. *cough*dora*cough* Then some genius comes up with a show that not only the kids love but is enjoyable to the parents too!  Thank you creators or Phineas and Ferb! I especially thank you for the unique and talented super spy, Perry the Platypus! You make TV time with my boys a little more enjoyable!

Fall Fun with Dad!

My hubs is an amazing dad…not even exaggerating…he’s awesome! The way he is with the boys just makes my heart swell! I thank God everyday that our boys are blessed with such a father.
This is a perfect example of how awesome he is….

Yesterday I had a meeting in the middle of the day. I was gone for about an hour and a half and when I got home I found them all outside…soaking wet! I was then informed that they had been bobbing for apples!  HA!  Seriously, how fun is that?  And totally not something that I would have thought to do with them. Not only did they have a great time but hubs even took pictures!  I loved flipping through them and seeing the fun they had! My boys are so lucky!

My Monday Had a Hangover

Yesterday I had the stereotypical Monday. I don’t have them too often but when they come they hit hard. I went to bed hoping that when I woke I would see a beautiful Tuesday…but my Monday had a hangover. I really want a Wednesday so in order to boot the Monday I’m going to count my blessings and focus on the positive!

1. Brave men and woman who dedicate themselves to protecting this country and for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice doing so. I will be eternally grateful.

2. Coffee and carrot cake cupcakes. (I bake when I’m stressed.)

3. Friends who stop by out of the blue and bring a smile to my face.

4. Zim’s imagination.

5. Unexpected good luck…they are good luck right?
